My husband was raised a catholic, I a protestant. When we got married the troubles in Ireland were at their peak and an interfaith marriage in Scotland was still a big deal. Our wedding was stressful in trying to appease both faiths. There was no alternative that we could find at that time. Years later, when my nieces and nephews then my son got married, they all hired a Humanist Officiant. I was intrigued and delighted at each wedding as to how intimate, warm and meaningful the ceremony was, and of course, devoid of religion. I decided that when I retired I would train to become a Humanist Officiant so that I could bring that same joy I witnessed to non-religious wedding ceremonies and therefore help couples make the day in their own style and avoid the stress and strain. Bio: My husband Brian and I immigrated to Canada and raised two children, Steven and Lisa. Steven lives in Innisfill and Lisa now lives in Edinburgh Scotland (go figure, reverse immigration!) Brian and I lived in beautiful Collingwood and enjoyed the outdoor lifestyle. Unfortunately Brian was diagnosed with brain cancer and died July 2020. I made the decision to return to York Region to be nearer friends and family. I now live in Mount Albert Ont.
