Why Become an Affiliate?

Our program offers a mutually beneficial partnership designed to support your organization’s growth and give your members greater access to Canada’s national humanist network.

What We Provide to Affiliates

• 50% Off HC Memberships: Half-price Humanist Canada memberships for all members of your affiliate group.
• Directory & Promotion: A dedicated directory listing on humanistcanada.ca to help local members find you.
• Communication Support: Promotional opportunities for your group’s initiatives through HC channels, including:
  • 1 event advertisement per month in the HC Newsletter.*
  • 2 social media posts per month across HC’s channels.*
  • 1 event listing per month on HC’s online calendar.*
• Peer Connection & Collaboration: Opportunity to host joint events with HC, participate in quarterly online forums with other affiliates, and gain access to peer networking.
• National Summit Access: Participation in the annual Canadian Humanist and Secular Summit hosted online by Humanist Canada.

Shared Principles, Autonomous Leadership

Humanist Canada Affiliates are autonomous partners. Your group determines its own leadership, membership structure, governance, and financial administration—maintaining its own charitable status and independent operations where applicable.

Affiliation reflects a shared commitment to secularism and critical thinking, governed by clear mutual responsibilities rather than a legal agency, employment, or partnership relationship.

Commitments of Affiliates

To join and maintain affiliation, partner groups commit to:

1. Mission Alignment: Support HC’s vision and values, sharing the humanist principles outlined in the Amsterdam Declaration.
2. Community Identity: Identify as a humanist community group (independently or alongside a primary affiliation) and promote humanism locally and nationally.
3. Mutual Support: Display the HC Affiliate logo and link on your website, designate a primary contact point, pay the annual affiliate fee, and reasonably promote relevant HC programs to your members.
4. Governance Standards: Maintain an acceptable Code of Conduct (consistent with HC standards) and receive approval from the Humanist Canada Board of Directors.

The Application & Renewal Process

We welcome applications from groups that share our vision and uphold high standards of organizational integrity.

How Applications Are Assessed

The HC Board evaluates incoming applications based on:

• Alignment with HC’s mission, values, and Code of Conduct standards.
• Organizational legitimacy, legal considerations, and community benefit.
• Approval is granted at the sole discretion of the Humanist Canada Board of Directors.

Annual Affirmation

To keep our network active and aligned, affiliates complete a simple annual update confirming:

• Intention to continue affiliation and payment of the annual fee.
• Updated leadership and contact details.
• Continued alignment with HC’s mission, values, and governance standards.
• Notification of any major changes (e.g., legal status, purpose, or governance updates).

Annual Fee

• $100 for groups with up to 74 members
• $200 for groups with 75 or more members

Next Steps

Complete and sign an Affiliate Agreement 

Upon receipt of the Affiliate Agreement, the Humanist Canada Board will review your application and will contact you to confirm your Affiliate status.
